The Bulgarian Patriarch and Metropolitan of Sofia Daniil, the Chairperson of the National Assembly Natalia Kiselova and Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev honoured the Solemn Assembly held on the occasion of the 105th Anniversary of the University of National and World Economy.

“Today, we celebrate not just the longevity of an academic institution – today, we pay tribute to the people who have built and continue to build its reputation, its name, and its future. A university is not simply a place where economic, legal or management concepts are taught. It is a place where young people learn responsibility, integrity, diligence, and the pursuit of truth”, emphasized Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov, Rector of UNWE.

The Bulgarian Patriarch and Metropolitan of Sofia Daniil led a Thanksgiving Prayer Service in honour of the Anniversary. “The Holy Bulgarian Orthodox Church is not only a devoted intercessory prayer for the success of educational endeavors, but also a natural adherent of every valuable educational institution in our country – and the University of National and World Economy is undoubtedly one of them”, said the Patriarch. He read the message he had written in the Golden Book of UNWE:

The divine economy, the house-building or the fulfillment of God’s plan for humanity and the world is based on the principle of love for God and man. This principle is also fruitful in the field of economics, as economics ultimately comes down to relationships between people, and respectively, between societies and nations.“

The Rector of UNWE Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov awarded a commemorative medal to His Holiness in recognition of the spiritual support he provides to the University. The same distinction was also awarded to the Chairperson of the National Assembly and to the Minister of Education and Science for their continued support of UNWE’s educational and scientific initiatives.

“Today you have reason to be proud. Throughout the years the UNWE has consistently provided high-quality, modern education and ensured the successful professional development of its undergraduates and Doctoral students. You are a family that preserves the academic spirit and traditions, and each of you has contributed to the University’s growth. The success of each individual is a success for the entire educational institution”, outlined Natalia Kiselova, Chairperson of the National Assembly.

“The education is both a challenge and an investment. Providing it to the young people is a responsibility, a mission, and a calling. Over its 105-year history the UNWE has proven to be an economic university whose reputation extends far beyond the borders of our homeland. Its lecture halls have shaped generations of Bulgarian economists, bankers, statesmen, administrators, diplomats and politicians. Let UNWE continue to be a symbol of modern, high-quality education and professional success. Keep striving toward the major objective of the education: knowledge guided by morality.”

“You are the largest higher education institution in the field of economics, and we rely on you more than any other for the development of our national economy. Over the years, you have educated countless economists, lawyers, and public administrators. I greet you for your role in shaping key policies and for fulfilling not only the mission of providing knowledge, but also the equally important mission of instilling values”, said Krasimir Valchev, Minister of Education and Science. In his message in the Golden Book of UNWE he added:

“I wish for the UNWE to continue building leaders who drive the economy, business, and governance of our country just as it has done over the past 105 years. You stand on a solid and rich foundation of history and tradition, which empowers you to meet the challenges of the future as a leading economic university.”

Maxim Behar, Chairperson of the UNWE Board of Trustees, pointed out that over the decades the UNWE has faced countless challenges and undergone significant transformations lut it has always kept pace with the times—adapting and setting new standards in education.

“The UNWE is not just a university - it is a cause. A cause dedicated to preparing leaders, experts and visionaries. A cause dedicated to educating generations in the spirit of knowledge, responsibility and national dignity. I would like to address the Rector and to greet him for the professionalism, enthusiasm and strength of spirit with which he leads the University”, said the newly elected Chairperson of the Student Council Kaloyan Stefanov.

The UNWE Manging Body together with the Deans of the Faculties, Secretaries General, lecturers, students, and guests, laid wreaths and flowers in front of the monument of the University’s founder and first Rector Prof. Stephan Bobchev.

The UNWE received numerous greeting letters and video greetings from various organizations in Bulgaria and abroad on the occasion of its 105th Anniversary.
